FOIA Request to Georgia Southwestern State University Regarding Chinese National Students on June 4, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, WC Georgia News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Georgia Southwestern State University. The request seeks detailed information about the university’s current Chinese National students and their academic and financial affiliations.

The request specifically asks for documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their departments of study. If privacy laws protect student names, we have requested a total count of these students broken down by department.

Additionally, we are seeking information on scholarships awarded to these students. This includes the amount of each scholarship received by Chinese National students and the source of these scholarships. We also requested details about any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Furthermore, our inquiry extends to university policies or procedures that describe how the institution monitors students, including Chinese Nationals, to safeguard its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of WC Georgia News and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As media professionals dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe access to this information is crucial for informing the public and holding institutions accountable. We have also requested a fee waiver based on our role in disseminating important information to the public.
