The request seeks access to specific inmate records under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. The media organization has requested electronic copies of all inmate records for individuals held on ICE detainers from February 2, 2025, through July 2, 2025. Additionally, they have asked for a list of detainees who were turned over to ICE during this period and the charges issued against each individual.
The request emphasizes the importance of these records in fulfilling the professional responsibilities of media personnel in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. WC Georgia News has also requested a fee waiver as a media professional and member of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that aids in investigating governmental agencies.
