Reports from the Georgia Department of Education show that 329 white students were enrolled at New Mountain Hill Elementary School during the 2024-25 school year, marking a 6% decrease from the prior year.
During 2024-25, the school’s total enrollment reached 457 students. White students represented 72% of the population, making up the largest demographic within the student body.
Located in the Harris County School District, New Mountain Hill Elementary’s district headquarters are in Hamilton.
Within the district’s seven schools, Harris County High School had the largest white student enrollment in 2024-25, with 1,143 students.
Georgia public schools enrolled more than 1.7 million students, based on the Fiscal Year 2026-1 report from the Georgia Department of Education. Elementary grades accounted for the largest proportion, with 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by 388,733 in middle school (22.7%) and 539,092 in high school (31.4%).
Chronic absenteeism continues to be a concern in Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. The department launched a statewide initiative that includes a real-time attendance dashboard, a public awareness campaign, and targeted aid for districts with greater needs to improve daily attendance.
Legislation was enacted in 2025 to update Georgia’s school attendance policies, prohibiting expulsion for excessive absenteeism alone. The new law brings about additional reporting requirements and supports alternative pathways for students to attain diplomas.
Georgia’s student-to-teacher ratio was around 14:1 as of 2026, beating the national average of 15:1.
