Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.
Dothan Campus commencement is slated for 5 p.m. Dec. 15 in the Dothan Civic Center.
Troy University Trustee and alumna Karen Carter will provide the keynote address at Troy University’s Dothan Campus fall commencement.
About 120 students are expected to participate in the ceremony which begins at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15 in the Dothan Civic Center.
Trustee Karen Carter
Carter is a retired insurance executive having spent 40 years in the insurance and financial services industry. She has served on the Troy University Board of Trustees since 2009 and chairs the Academic Affairs Committee on the Board. She is the past Chairman of the Troy University Foundation Board of Directors and continues to serve as a member of that Foundation.
Carter was a State Farm Insurance agent prior to entering the leadership ranks and earning the privilege of leading State Farm agents in Alabama and surrounding states. She also managed the Southeastern regional Marketing and Human Resources departments. She was responsible for appointments of new agents in four southern states.
A graduate of Pike County High School, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree Summa Cum Laude at Troy University. In addition, she holds Certified Life Underwriter and Chartered Leadership Fellow designations from American College, and a marketing certification from Northwestern University.
She and her husband Richard Carter have three children and seven grandchildren. They are members of First Baptist Church of Opelika. Carter is a past director of Junior Achievement of Greater Birmingham, a past board member of Business Council of Alabama and serves on the Auburn University Women’s Leadership Institute Advisory Board and the Sorrell College of Business Dean’s Advisory Board.
