Harris County Receives Excellence Award from ACCG and Georgia Trend Magazine for the Man O’ War Railroad Recreation Trail

Award

During the April 2022 Spring conference of the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) in Savannah, Harris County was recognized as a County of Excellence with its Man O’ War Railroad Recreation Trail.

Since 2019, Harris County has been developing the gravel rail line into a paved non-motorized pedestrian trail to increase outdoor recreational activities such as walking, biking, and hiking and promote healthy lifestyles. Thus far, the county has paved 5 miles of the 21 total miles from downtown Pine Mountain to the Callaway Country Store, atop of scenic Pine Mountain using various grants and TSPLOST funds. Currently, 5.4 additional miles of the trail are being paved from the Callaway Country Store to south of Hamilton using TSPLOST funds, making the trail intercity. This new section of paved trail is scheduled to be completed by Fall.

Harris County and this award will be highlighted in the June issue of Georgia Trend magazine.
