The Board of County Commissioners, during their June 7, 2022 commission meeting, approved Phase I of courthouse renovations. 2WR Architects from Columbus developed an assessment of the courthouse during 2021 to determine needed repairs and prepared all construction drawings for Phase I. River City Contracting of Fortson, Georgia submitted a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $3,508,077 to perform Phase I. The initial phase consists of replacing the entire roof of both the historic portion and the 1998 addition, replace storm windows on the historic portion, repair the front balcony and side canopies on the historic portion, clean and repair the exterior surfaces, repair the interior courtroom balcony in the historic portion, and repair the foundation on the 1998 addition.
This project will be funded by SPLOST-2019 and federal American Rescue Plan (ARP) grant funds and is scheduled to start during July or August 2022 and be completed during early 2023. Subsequent phases will occur as funding becomes available.
