WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) issued the following statement regarding the death of legendary singer-songwriter, Tina Turner.

“Today, the world lost ‘The Queen of Rock and Roll’ and one of the greatest singers of all time, Tina Turner.

“Using her stage talent and soulful voice, she skillfully combined elements of Soul, R&B, and Rock and Roll to form her own unique style, recording countless hits that inspired people of all ages over the course of her six-decade career.

“Notwithstanding her rocky upbringing in rural Tennessee during the 1950s and 1960s, Tina showed us all how to overcome adversity and turn it into opportunity and success.

“Tina Turner will without a doubt go down in music history as simply ‘The Best.’”
