COLUMBUS, Ga. – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) issued the following statement in response to the Majority Opinion that was issued in Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President and Fellows of Harvard College – the U.S. Supreme Court decision to end race-conscious admissions policies at public and private universities.
“U.S. Supreme Court ruling to end race-conscious college admissions turns back the clock on the decades-long progress our colleges and universities have made to ensure our institutions reflect the great diversity of America,” said Congressman Bishop. “Throughout our nation’s history, Black and Brown Americans have faced entry barriers and been underrepresented in our higher education institutions, which harms their ability to achieve economic mobility and build wealth. This ruling will harm people of color for generations to come as well as jeopardize opportunities for historically disadvantaged communities across the United States.”
