Talbot County Education: Fewer students enrolled in Central Elementary/High School in 2022-23 school year

The only school in Talbot County faced declining enrollment in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

There were 394 students in the halls of Central Elementary/High School, 2% lower than the year before.

Enrollment in Talbot County was steady compared to the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 54% of them were male, and 46% were female.

Data also showed that most of the students were Black, representing 87% of the Central Elementary/High School total enrollment.

Central Elementary/High School has a main office in Talbotton and is the only school within Talbot County.

According to the Georgia Department of Education, over 1.6 million students were enrolled in Georgia's public schools during the 2021-22 school year. The state boasted a diverse and closely distributed student body across grade levels, with roughly 44% of the students in elementary, 24.5% in middle school, and 31.5% in high schools.

The state also registered an ethnically diverse student body, with 34.4% of the students identified as white, 36.5% as Black, 17.1% as Hispanic, and 4.5% as Asian.
