FOIA Request Sent to Schley County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024

FOIA Request to Schley County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024.

In our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at WC Georgia News have sent a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., to the Schley County Election Department. The request seeks information about the methods being used to count votes in the upcoming election.

Specifically, we have asked for details about whether the vote counting process is manual or automated. If it is manually counted, we have requested an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

As a media organization, our role involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We believe that as media professionals, we are eligible for a fee waiver when accessing these records.

We await a response from the Schley County Election Department and will keep our readers updated with any developments.
