A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Taylor County Election Department in Georgia on October 29, 2024. The request, made by WC Georgia News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought details about the methods used by the department to count votes.
Specifically, the request asked for information on whether the vote counting process is manual or automated. If manual counting is employed, WC Georgia News also requested an estimate of the number of people expected to be working on election night.
As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we at WC Georgia News believe that access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq.
We eagerly await a response from the Taylor County Election Department and will continue our efforts to provide comprehensive coverage of local governmental affairs.
