A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Harris County Election Department on October 29, 2024. The request was made by WC Georgia News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request sought specific information about the methods used by the Harris County Election Department to count votes. In particular, if the votes are counted manually, WC Georgia News requested an estimated number of people who would be working on election night.
As a media organization, we at WC Georgia News believe in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Therefore, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq.
We await a response from the Harris County Election Department and will continue our efforts to keep the public informed about important aspects of local government operations.
