FOIA Request to Sumter County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at WC Georgia News have submitted a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., for specific records from the Sumter County Election Department.

The requested records include detailed information about the methods being used by the department to count votes in the upcoming election. In addition, if the votes are being counted manually, we have asked for an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

We believe that access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we feel that we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We look forward to receiving this information from the Sumter County Election Department and will continue our work in providing comprehensive news coverage for our readers.
