Sumter County Intermediate School reports 7 Asian students for 2024-25 enrollment

Seven Asian students attended Sumter County Intermediate School in the 2024-25 school year, matching the figure from the prior year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

The school’s total enrollment reached 729 students for the 2024-25 term. Asian students comprised 1% of the student population, marking them as one of the smallest demographic groups present.

Sumter County Intermediate School is part of Sumter County School District, with its headquarters in Americus.

Of the five schools in the Sumter County School District, Sumter County High School saw the highest Asian student enrollment in 2024-25, with 10 students registered.

The National Center for Education Statistics reports that Georgia’s public school student body was roughly 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.

Chronic absenteeism continues to challenge Georgia’s education system after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more days of school in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education.
