Harris County recently announced the details of its upcoming Shred and Recycle Day, scheduled for Saturday, May 10th. The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Harris County Courthouse parking lot in Hamilton.
This community service event provides residents with the chance to securely dispose of sensitive documents, such as old tax records, financial statements, and other paperwork containing confidential information. "Help prevent identity theft while cleaning out your home or office," the announcement states.
In addition to shredding services, the Harris County Sheriff’s Department will collaborate by providing a medicine drop box on-site. This will allow for safe disposal of expired or unused medications, aiming to prevent misuse or accidental poisonings.
The event will accept personal documents, excluding plastic or metal but allowing staples, as well as expired or unused prescription drugs, with the exception of needles or liquids.
Organizers describe the service as free for the community, encouraging residents to "come out and take advantage of this opportunity to safely dispose of these items."
